Tyre Valve Replacement
A tyre valve is a crucial component of a car’s tyre that is responsible for maintaining constant air pressure and preventing leaks. If your tyre appears to get frequent slow punctures despite no signs of visual damage to the tyre itself then perhaps the tyre valve is to blame. If this turns out to be the case, we would be happy to arrange a tyre valve replacement for you.
Why is a tyre valve important?
Tyre valves rarely attract the attention of the average motorist, however the tyre valve or tyre valve stem as it’s also called, is there to help maintain the air pressure within the tyre and allow air to be added or removed as required. If this valve is damaged physically or if dirt/grit has gotten into the valve through exposure to the elements it will impede its ability to retain air pressure within the tyre and air may be able to escape over time.
A damaged valve can result in air escaping from the tyre causing it to slowly deflate over time, resulting in a number of problems.
- The increased resistance between the deflated tyre and the road will slightly increase fuel consumption.
- A deflated tyre will compromise the safety when driving, possibly causing loss of control.
- Driving on a deflated tyre will drastically reduce the life of the tyre.
The valve cap
Despite being a small piece of (commonly) plastic the valve cap serves an important role in protecting the valve from any water, dirt, grit or any other material that could cause damage and affect its functionality. From time to time the caps themselves can get damaged or even stolen, so it’s best to give them a quick check every now and then.
